As we start a new year, we’re looking back at some of the Finish Line Fund’s 2024 highlights.
One key moment for us was supporting the TCS London Marathon this Spring.
Bright and early on Sunday 21 April, a team of 26 volunteers, organised by the Finish Line Fund, made their way to the London Marathon. The group marshalled the one mile stretch on Poplar High Street in Tower Hamlets, marking the 20-mile point of the marathon.
Every year approximately 6,000 volunteers join the London Marathon team and play a crucial role in the delivery of the event.
Lloyd Richardson, the charity’s Treasurer and team leader of the 26 volunteers, commented: “It’s a pleasure for us to do our part and get involved in the London Marathon each year. My volunteer team, and the many other teams that take part, keep the course clear, provide support for the runners and spectators, and deal with any issues. It’s a long shift, starting at 7am and finishing up at 5pm, but we were in high spirits with the excitement on the day.”
The Finish Line Fund received a £150 donation for volunteering as well as one place in the 2025 marathon. At the 2024 London Marathon, Bridget Dowdy ran and raised funds for the Finish Line Fund. This year, Paula Young will be running with the Finish Line Fund logo on her vest.
